About Casting for the Kids

In 2018, Hannah Shroyer was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma. Ben and Ginger Shroyer (Hannah’s parents) were overwhelmed by the care and compassion of everyone at John Hopkin's All Children's Hospital, and wanted to do something to give back. They teamed up with their friends at Big Top Brewing Company and Lucky Pelican for an event called Brewing Up Awareness, where proceeds would go towards research at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital where Hannah is currently being treated.

BigTop Brewery brewed a delicious Banana wheat Ale, calling it the Hannah Banana after our little Hannah and Patrick from Lucky Pelican cooked up award winning BBQ. Along with food and beer there were raffle items.

Further into Hannah’s fight against cancer the Shroyer’s met and quickly became good friends with other fellow cancer parents, Matt and Jamie VanLanDuyt (Claytons parents) and Matt Rebhan and Heather Woulfe (Logan’s parents).

Again in 2019 they held Brewing Up Awareness and this time they all came together at Big Top to help raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer.

Looking to grow what they had started they were suddenly hit with a pandemic in 2020...but just because there was a pandemic going on doesn’t mean that childhood cancer stops. Trying to figure out how they were going to be “covid friendly” and knowing they wanted to grow Brewing Up Awareness, all three families came together and Casting For the Kids was formed.

In 2020 we thought a fishing tournament would help with social distancing and an outdoor event could cater to everyone. They secured Evie's at Spanish Point Restaurant & Tiki, Alpine Steakhouse and Deli catered the food, Big Top brewed their famous Hannah Banana along with a new Logan’s Lager. Calusa Brewing joined in the fun and brewed a Clayton IPA and Brew Life Brewing brewed an IPA for a 4th child fighting cancer locally.

Instead of donating all the money raised to go to research, we decided to donate to families going through the same battles we went through, and are still going through.

Casting For The Kids 1st Fishing Tournament raised $25,000!

Casting For The Kids Foundation was able to bless multiple families helping them pay for rent, mortgages, utilities, vehicle payments, vehicle maintenance, Christmas presents, and memory making trips!

Casting For The Kids 2nd Annual Fishing Tournament raised $50,000!

Incredibly, 2021's Tournament doubled the amount raised the 1st year!

Casting For The Kids is grateful for the support and assistance of Dancing With Clayton during this transition. Dancing With Clayton has always been its own foundation and is now separate from Casting For The Kids.  When childhood cancer families work together, everyone wins!
